Romanians spend an average of 18.6 hours a week online, ranking second in Europe, after Ukraine with 20 hours per week, according to the recent Mediascope Europe bulletin. Romania is followed by Turkey, whose inhabitants spend 18.3 hours per week online. The study did not make it clear whether these hours spent online include the time spent online for work.

The study revealed that Romanians use instant messaging with 60 percent more than the average European internet user. The email is used by nearly the entire Czech population with Internet access, while professional social networks are used by more than 90 percent of the Portuguese internet users, which is 28 percent more the EU average.

Greek users blog nearly double than the EU average while the Dutch internet users contribute to ratings and reviews and provide feedback on products and services two times more than the EU average.  Bulgarians use personal social networks 23 percent more than the average European internet user.

Almost 427 million Europeans are online, representing 65 percent of the European population, according to the Mediascope bulletin.

Of the total online European population, some 23 percent are aged between 25 and 34, 21 percent have ages between 35 and 44, while 24.8 percent are aged between 16 and 24. Moreover, 52 percent of the total online European population is represented by men.

Over 65 percent of Europeans own a mobile phone with internet access, while 44 percent of all Europeans own a smartphone.

Almost 60 million Europeans use a tablet to go online and spend 9.3 hours a week accessing the internet on their tablets.
