Telecom companies offer EUR 28 mln to broadcast Romania's First League matches

15 June 2015

Telecom players RCS-RDS and Telekom have offered local football clubs between EUR 25 million and EUR 28 million per season for the rights to broadcast the football matches in Romania’s First League.

The current contract between the local Football League (LPF) and the Malta-registered company Intel Sky Broadcast (ISB), which has broadcasted the matches so far, will cease, as the Maltese company wanted to reduce the contract value.

The proposal made by RCS-RDS and Telekom is definitely more advantageous than the deal with ISB, according to an owner of a First League club, reports local Ziarul Financiar.

ISB has to pay until today, June 15, EUR 17 million to the local Football League. The amount represents the first tranche for the right to broadcast the football matches in the 2015/2016 season.
