Tax agency checks Romanians with secret accounts

Romania’s Tax Agency ANAF will check the wealth of 50 Romanians who have secret accounts opened at the HSBC Switzerland bank.

It has received information on their fortunes from France’s Tax Agency, according to government sources, cited by local Digi24.

The tax inspectors will check if there are differences between the amounts declared in Romania and those found in Switzerland. It will tax the unreported income by 16%.

The Swiss branch of the British bank HSBC, allegedly helped 100,000 people and companies from 203 countries cheat the tax agencies in their countries.
