Swedish group Ericsson to hire 300 for its Global Services Center in Romania next year

Swedish group Ericsson plans to expand the operations of its Global Services Center in Romania and to add another 300 employees next year, the group’s representatives announced.

The center in Romania, which is one of the four Ericsson Global Services Centers and the only one located in Europe, currently has 1,900 employees and serves 34 international clients located in Europe, Africa, Middle East and North America.

“The Global Services Center represents a very important part of our organization of global services, through which we manage to support over 2.5 billion subscribers all over the globe. The center will continue to develop next year, as we are preparing to expand our services portfolio to serve a new category of clients: TV operators,” said Liam Coffey, head of Ericsson’s Global Services Center Romania.

Ericsson this year signed a contract with telecom operators Romtelecom and Cosmote (both recently re-branded as Telekom Romania)  to take over the management and maintenance of the fixed and mobile networks of the two companies. As part of this deal, Ericsson also took 730 employees from the two companies which were added to its Global Services Center in Romania.

Ericsson, who has been working in Romania for the last 20 yearsia, currently has 2,800 employees in the country and estimates a 3,000 headcount by year-end, the company’s representatives said. During the last 20 years, the company has been involved in large projects which contributed to the development of the local IT&C sector, such as the launching of the 3G and 4G technologies in Romania and the development of the 112 Emergency Service.

In 2013, Ericsson Telecommunications Romania SRL, the group’s main company in Romania, had a turnover of EUR 126 million and a net profit of EUR 5.4 million.
