Romanians are still pessimistic about their economy and think the country's situation is worse than a year ago, reveals data from a recent GfK survey. Around three quarters of Romanians believe Romania's economic situation is worse than a year ago. They are pessimistic, despite 'acceptable' figures for the country's economy, according to GfK.

GfK mentions the expected increase of 0.5 percent in GDP for this year, the low unemployment, below 5 percent, while also underlining the quarrel for power at a political level and the recent referendum to dismiss the country's president. “These events clearly affected the population sentiment. The already low trust level in the politicians dropped again. Trust that politicians will stabilize Romania's economy and direct it to long term growth also dropped,” according to GfK.

When it comes to their personal income, Romanians are a bit more optimistic, and the trend started increasing mid-2011. The income indicator is currently at minus 14.1 points, after the all time low in June 2010, minus 72.7 points.

The GfK Maxx Consumption Climate is based on monthly interviews. In Romania, 1,000 interviews were conducted.
