Romanian women are more responsible when it comes to their budget and to paying off debt than men, according to debt recovery firm Kruk. Women make only 35 percent of the value of the debt managed by Kruk, while covering less than 40 percent of the number of new cases managed by the company.

“Even if men think women spend more, the statistics show the contrary. Romanian women manage the household debt, but also make sure debt does not accumulate, which is why they tend to have less due debts,” said Cosmina Marinescu, head of the Operations Division with Kruk Romania.

A recent study ordered by Kruk revealed similar data, with women being in the majority when it came to who managed the household budget. However, some say the statistics could be explained by the traditional way families in Romania work, with the men usually taking on loan contracts for the entire family in their own names.

Polish debt management and collection company Kruk Group, operating in Poland, Romania, and the Czech Republic, reported revenues of some EUR 82 million in 2011, up 67 percent over 2010.

The group’s operating profit in 2011 was of some EUR 28 million - up 125 percent over the previous year, while its net profit amounted to some EUR 19 million - up 84 percent.
