Spanish firm upgrades Craiova Airport’s runway with EUR 11 mln

10 June 2015

Spanish company Azvi has won a EUR 11 million contract to modernize the Craiova Airport runway. The contract includes the design and execution for revamping the takeoff and landing runway, which is 2.5 kilometers long.

Seven companies took part at the tender, said Ion Prioteasa, the president of the Dolj County Council, reports local Economica.net. None issued a complaint after the winner was announced, which is often the case with other public tenders in Romania.

The Spanish company has eight months to complete the work. When modernization work is completed, the Craiova Airport could become the backup airport for Bucharest’s Otopeni Airport, said Prioteasa.

Craiova Airport’s rehabilitation is part of a EUR 24 mln project financed with EU funds.
