Romania’s government collected some RON 3.14 billion (EUR 630 mln or 0.2% of GDP) as solidarity contributions from oil and gas companies, according to Profit.ro, quoting sources within the tax collection agency ANAF.

It is less than the RON 3.9 bln initially estimated last September when the executive drafted the solidarity contribution bill in line with the European Commission’s recommendations.

The contributions resulting from the activity carried out last year were due June 25.

The largest contribution was made by OMV Petrom, RON 1.5 bln, followed by Romgaz (RON 1 bln). The revenues cover, however, only part of the fall in budget revenues versus planning: RON 8.2 bln in the first five months of the year.

The government amended the solidarity contribution formula this spring after OMV Petrom explained that it is not subject to the tax under the initial definition. After the amendment, OMV Petrom had to pay the contribution.

Another significant contributor must be the Petromidia refinery part of Rompetrol Rafinare.
