Over 8.83 million Internet connections in Romania were affected by various incidents which breached their security last year. The number halved year-on-year, according to Romania’s communications authority ANCOM.

Most incidents were recorded in Bucharest, Constanta, Dolj and Teleorman.

Half of these breaches happened on mobile phones, followed by mobile internet services, with almost 3 million connections, audiovisual programs broadcasting, with 840,000 connections and fixed phone services, with 440,000 connections.

Internal causes such as software and hardware system errors or human errors caused by incorrect configuration caused about a quarter of the incidents. The rest were caused by external factors, such as power outage, natural phenomena or cable theft.
