Salaries in IT, still low in Romania compared to Western Europe

24 September 2015

The salaries in Romania’s IT sector are still low compared to those in Western Europe, despite the increases recorded in the last year. A developer can earn over USD 14,000 a month in Switzerland, ten times more than one in Romania.

Programmers’ salaries rose by 20-30% in the last five years, but they are still behind those in Denmark or Switzerland, and closer to those in countries such as Bulgaria, according to a study quoted by Wall Street Journal, reports local Ziarul Financiar.

A Romanian developer with 2-3 years of work experience has a salary ranging between USD 1,500 - 2,500 per month, said Maria Hostiuc, senior IT&C recruitment consultant at Brainspotting. Even in India a developer can earn over USD 3,500 per month.
