Romania's Transgaz to build EUR 200 mln pipeline to Hungary

29 October 2015

Romania's gas transporter Transgaz will build a 220-km pipeline, which costs EUR 190 million, that will double the gas transit capacity between Romania and Hungary.

The Bacia-Hateg-Horia pipeline could transport almost eight billion cubic meters annually on both sides of the border with Hungary. It could become operational in 2023, reports local Economica.net.

The project is part of the central corridor that will be developed on Romania’s territory. This corridor, together with the southern corridor will transport to the West the gases extracted from the Black Sea by OMV and ExxonMobil. The southern corridor will also have a ramification to Bulgaria, at Russe, through the future Giurgiu-Ruse interconnector.

Transgaz has requested European financing for this project.
