Romanian tennis star Simona Halep, a finalist in last week’s WTA Finals tournament in Singapore, returned to number 3 in the WTA ranking. Halep currently has 6,292 points and comes third in the ranking after American Serena Williams – 8,485 points and Russian Maria Sharapova – 7,050 points, WTA announced on Monday.

Halep had lost a position in the WTA ranking two weeks ago, going down to number 4, after she chose to not attend the Kremlin Cup tournament, in order to get ready for the WTA Finals. Her best ranking was in August 2014, when she went up to number two in the world, after playing the final in Roland Garros and reaching the semifinals in Wimbledon.

The Romanian lost on Sunday, October 28, the final of the WTA Finals in Singapore, to number one Serena Williams after two sets ended 6-3, 6-0. The American player took revenge for the match she lost to Halep in the tournament’s group stage on Wednesday, October 22, when Halep won 6-0, 6-2.
