Romania’s retail trade continues recovery

Romania’s retail trade turnover, except trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles, grew by 6.1% in September 2014, compared to the same month of last year, according to the latest data provided by the National Statistics Institute.

The increase came mainly from the food, beverages and tobacco segment, which was up by 9.1%. Non-food retail increased by 5.1%, while car fuel retail in specialized stores was down 4.9% compared to September 2013.

In the first nine months of 2014, the retail trade turnover went up by 7.6%. The non-food segment grew the most, by 11%, followed by food and beverages, plus 8.4%. Car fuel sales were almost flat compared to the first nine months of last year.
