25 May 2015

Romania’s public debt reached 44.1% of the GDP at the end of 2014. It amounted to EUR 65.94 billion.

The public debt stood at 40.4% of the GDP in 2012 and at 41.9% in 2013.  It totaled EUR 54.38 billion at the end of 2012, according to the Court of Auditors.

The public debt per capita increased by EUR 608, from EUR 2,705 at the end of 2012, to EUR 3,313  at the end of 2014.

The ratio between public debt and GDP stays below the alert threshold of 60% set out in the Treaty of the European Union. However, if the public debt continued to go up, the solvency risks increases, warns the Court of Auditors.
