Romania’s PM urges ministers to outline budget, takes days off after elections defeat

19 November 2014

Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta urged ministers to outline the next year’s budget until the arrival of the delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the European Commission (EC) and the World Bank (WB) at the beginning of December.

“Each minister will talk to the Ministry of Public Finance, and in regards to the special measures, we'll make a political decision within the coalition and the Government," Ponta said.

“I want us to continue doing our job. As long as we have the support of the Parliament, we are expected to fulfil our job tasks,” he added in the Government meeting.

The winner of the presidential elections Klaus Iohannis asked the Government to present a budget outline to the Parliament. The delegation from IMF and EC will be to Bucharest starting December 2.

Victor Ponta took a short holiday, between November 19 and November 24, and delegated his attributions to Deputy Prime Minister Gabriel Oprea. He said, on Monday, that he needs to spend some time with his family, according to Mediafax.

Ponta lost the presidential elections in Romania, on November 16, to Sibiu’s mayor Klaus Iohannis, by a wide margin, although he came first in the first round of the elections. Ponta only got 45.5% of the votes while Iohannis was voted by 54.5% of the Romanians.
