Romania's Highways Company buys drones to oversee constructors

26 May 2017

Romania’s National Company for Road Infrastructure (CNAIR) will buy two drones to monitor the infrastructure works at national level, said the CNAIR director Stefan Ionita yesterday.

CNAIR will conduct unexpected drone controls and post the films on its website.

“The drone is an element of overcontrol that we intend to carry out,” said Ionita, reports local Economica.net. He explained that the National Company for Road Infrastructure has initiated projects of RON 3.6 billion (EUR 791 million).

The Centre for Road Engineering Studies & Informatics (CESTRIN) will purchase the drones, Stefan Ionita said. He added that CESTRIN is already making unannounced controls.

“We take samples, we have reports, we have laboratory tests that have already been certified (...) We found things that did not correspond technically. Entrepreneurs are surprised by this, it was not done in the past,” the CNAIR director said.

In the first phase, CNAIR will use two drones. The procurement procedure will be completed in June.
