Romania's Government approves draft law on public procurement

28 October 2015

The Government approved on October 27 the draft law on public procurement, which will be sent to the Parliament to be adopted by emergency procedure.

The new bill introduces the “value for money” concept among the criteria for attributing public contracts. The state institution that will buy a product or a service will need to take into account the cost of the entire lifecycle of the product or the service and not only the “lowest price”.

The state can acquire directly products and services whose value is below EUR 15,000, and public works, whose value is below EUR 59,000.
