Romania's Communication Authority organizes a telecom census

13 October 2015

Romania’s Communication Authority ANCOM will spend RON 11 million (EUR 2.5 million) to carry out a census of the local telecommunications networks.

The institution will organize an auction next month for buying a software that will allow it to manage the data received from cable and mobile operators. These have to provide detailed information about their infrastructure, from cables and poles to distribution stations and other installations, reports local Digi24.

The purpose of this census is to create maps which show the access of Romania’s cities and villages to the internet, phone and cable TV networks.

The largest mobile phone operators have repeatedly asked ANCOM to allow them access to the fixed phone and internet networks which belong to RCS & RDS, Telekom or UPC. ANCOM said that it will not impose rules and will allow players to negotiate among themselves the access to infrastructure.
