Romania’s capital to host regional leaders’ meeting this fall

13 March 2015

Romanian capital Bucharest will host a reunion of the leaders in the region this fall, according to President Klaus Iohannis.

“We agreed to organize a new meeting of the heads of state in the region, in the same format that took place in Warsaw in July last year. This is a regional format that we consider important,” said Klaus Iohannis in a joint press conference with Poland’s President Bronislaw Komorowski.

This regional summit could bring to Romania the most prominent political leaders in Poland, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine and the Baltics. This meeting should also prepare the NATO summit in Warsaw in 2016. The major topic of these meetings will be the situation in Ukraine.

Iohannis is on a two-day official visit to Poland, where he met with Poland’s President Bronislaw Komorowski, on Thursday. On Friday he was going to meet the leaders of the Polish Parliament and Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz.
