Romania's banking system, one of the highest solvency ratios in the region

29 October 2015

The Romanian banking system has a solvency ratio of 18%, one of the highest in the region, said Sergiu Oprescu, president of the Romanian Banking Association (ARB).

Romania has one of the few European banking systems that has never needed money from the state.

The non-government credit has started increasing for the first time in 2015, Oprescu added, cited by local Agerpres. The mortgage loans will continue going up. They currently have a 10% share in the total market.

“It is the only segment within the non-government credit that has increased and will continue increasing,” said Oprescu.
