Romanians start making more calls abroad

Mobile phone users in Romania talked last year 67 billion of minutes, up 5.3% over 2013.

The calls to other mobile networks increased by 40%, while voice roaming calls went up by 53%, according to Romania’s communication authority ANCOM. The international mobile traffic rose by 76%.

These increases were due to ANCOM’s regulation last year which set the maximum value for calls in mobile networks starting April 1, 2014.

People sent about 19.5 billion text messages in 2014, up 15% over 2013.

The number of active mobile phone users amounted to 22.9 million at the end of 2014, similar to end- 2013. The number of subscription-based users increased by 4.9%, whereas the number of pre-paid card users went down by 3.4%.
