Romanians buy more cars in September

The sales of new cars in Romania increased by 3.4% in September compared to the same month last year. Over 5,750 new cars were registered in September, whereas the total car sales recorded between January and September in Romania amounted to over 56,800.

By comparison, the car registrations recorded in the same period last year totaled over 51,500, according to data from the registrations office cited by local Hotnews.ro.

Volkswagen’s new car registrations dropped by 20.8% in September, due to the scandal involving the German car producer, which apparently rigged diesel engine emissions tests in America and Europe. However, the German brand’s sales between January and September this year were 10.1% higher compared to the same period last year.

The second hand car market increased by 11.5% in September to over 22,600 units. It went up compared to September last year, when the second hand car sales reached about 20,300.

Between January and September, the second hand car market rose by 12.5% in Romania to over 179,500 units. The second hand car market thus remains three times bigger compared to the new car market in Romania.
