Romanian tech company gets USD 2 mln financing for mobile application in Mexico

14 January 2015

Romanian tech company Netopia, specialized in mobile financial services, received a USD 2 million financing from a group of investors from the U.S. and Mexico, for a project it developed in Mexico, the company announced.

The project, called Mobilender, is a quick financing mobile application that was launched in March 2013. The app, which can be downloaded for free from AppStore and Google Play, allows users to borrow up to USD 340 (5,000 Mexican pesos) in less than 40 minutes. This service is available all day and money must be repaid in 31 days.

The service, which is currently only available in Mexico, was developed by Netopia’s teams in Bucharest and Silicon Valley.

“I’ve always said that smartphone transactions are the future. More and more financial services will be simplified because technology allows it and users need them. This is why we launched Mobilender,” said Antonio Eram, Netopia’s CEO and founder.

He added that this financing round will help the company further develop the project, as his goal is to expand this service throughout Latin America. Netopia’s service mobilPay is market leader in Romania on the mobile payments segment. The company was founded by Romanian Antonio Eram in 2003.
