Romanian print media further slips on the downwards spiral end 2012

cup of coffeeNewspaper circulation continued to be on a downwards trend in Romania in the last quarter of 2012, with sales of printed media down year-on-year, according to data from the Romanian Circulation Bureau (BRAT).

The leader among the quality print media, the daily newspaper Romania Libera, saw its circulation down by some 10,000 copies per issue year-on-year, selling on average 27,300 copies in October last year.

The second runner, Jurnalul National, had a smaller drop, from 24,500 copies sold per issue in October 2011, to 19,000 copies in October last year.

Evenimentul Zilei came third, followed by Adevarul. The latter saw its sales down to almost half, to some 14,000 copies sold in October 2012.

On the tabloid segment, the newspaper Click! was top of the ranking, with almost 130,000 copies sold on average in October 2012, down on 153,000 copies in October 2011. Unlike the rest of the publications, Click! Managed to up its circulation end 2012, with almost 140,000 sold copies per issue.

Libertatea published by Ringier came second on the tabloids niche, with some 99,000 copies per issue in October and 84,500 in December 2012, also down on the year before.

On the business press segment, the business daily Ziarul Financiar, published by Mediafax Group, sold around 8,000 copies per issue in the third quarter of 2012, with 8,400 copies per issue in October and 7,800 copies per issue in December. This was down on some 9,100 copies per issue in the first quarter of 2012, and from 12,700 in the last quarter of 2011.

The business weekly Capital sold an average of 7,500 copies per issue, which was lower than the bi-monthly Biz, with some 8,500 copies per issue in the third quarter of 2012. Biz' performed better than in 2011, when it sold some 7,800 copies per issue in the last quarter. The business weekly Business Magazin, also published by Mediafax Group, was at some 5,700 copies per issue in the last quarter of 2012, down from 9,700 in the first quarter of 2011, for comparison.
