Romanian President Traian Basescu to meet his Facebook fans this week

05 June 2013

Romanian President Traian Basescu (in picture) will meet his Facebook fans this Thursday (June 6), at 17:00, according to a message posted on the official Traian Basescu’s supporters Facebook page - Alaturi de Presedintele Nostru (We stand by our President). The meeting will take place at the ICEEFest event at Grand Cinema Digiplex in the Baneasa area of Bucharest.

The fans who want to meet the President have to answer a question: “Give the arguments based on which you think social media has changed online communication with public personalities and the political world. Do you think social media is good for democracy?”

This comes soon after another message posted on the same page mentioned the possibility of such a meeting: “For us, the President’s supporters, Facebook was the place where we’ve been able to communicate directly, without pressure or interventions. Maybe it’s time for a face to face meeting, what do you say? How about a meeting with Mr. Traian Basescu to talk about the role of the internet and social media when it comes to direct and immediate communication? Will he agree to that?”

Alaturi de Presedintele Nostru is a Facebook page created especially for the President’s fans, on which they regularly post Traian Basescu’s messages, speeches, photos and news about him. See the Facebook page here.
