Romanian PM: Public procurement law, due by end of Parliament session

03 March 2015

The Romanian Government needs to finalize the law on public procurement by the end of this parliamentary session, said Prime Minister Victor Ponta, cited by local Mediafax.

In February, Ponta said that the Government would amend the public procurement law to resume the auctions stopped by the National Council for Solving Complaints (CNSC). These concerned projects worth hundreds of millions of euro, backed by EU funds, which are blocked by court appeals to tenders.

The European Commission’s Country Report on Romania for 2015 wrote that corruption and fraud in public procurement remains a problem for the country.

Lack of stability and fragmentation of the legal framework, poor controls within the system and the quality of competition in public procurement trigger difficulties within the public procurement system.
