Romanian MPs could vote Fiscal Code without VAT cut

22 June 2015

Romanian MPs could approve the new Fiscal Code without the general VAT rate cut from 24% to 20%, following suggestions from the European Commission and the International Monetary Fund.

The Government could approve the VAT rate cut through an Emergency Ordinance at the end of the year, said social-democrat MP Aurelia Cristea, member of the Budget and Finance Commission in the Chamber of Deputies.  “What is important is not to add taxes,” she said, cited by local Mediafax.

Cristea added that she had been cautious about the idea of cutting the VAT through the Fiscal Code, without knowing how the budget would look like in November.

The Chamber of Deputies will discuss and vote the new Fiscal Code this week.
