PM: Romanian authorities could take over helicopter crash investigation in Moldova

03 June 2016

The Romanian authorities may take full control of the investigation carried out in the case of the helicopter crash in the Republic of Moldova, as the Moldovan authorities seem to agree with this option, said Romanian Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos.

Four people died after a Romanian emergency rescue (SMURD) helicopter crashed in the Republic of Moldova on Thursday, June 2. Two teams from the Romanian Interior Ministry and a prosecutor from the General Prosecutor’s Office went to the crash scene on Thursday evening, according to Ciolos. They are currently investigating the crash, together with the Moldovan authorities.

“A protocol between the General Prosecutor’s Office in Romania and the General Prosecutor’s Office in the Republic of Moldova was completed late last night, and this allows the Romanian specialists to participate in the investigation, and not only assist as it would have been the case without such as protocol. It is very likely, however, that the Moldovan authorizes would agree to hand over the full control of the investigation to the Romanian authorities,” Dacian Ciolos said, reports local Agerpres.

The bodies of the four Romanian rescuers are to be brought back to Romania on Friday.
