Romanian gymnast Catalina Ponor trains for 3rd Olympics in her career

25 March 2015

Romanian gymnast Catalina Ponor, 27, is currently training with the national team for the Olympic Games to be organized in Rio next year.

This would be the third Olympics in her career, a new record for a Romanian gymnast.

“This was the thing that made me go into the training room, to make it to the third Olympics, not for the record but for myself,” said Ponor, cited by local Digi24.

Catalina Ponor won three gold medals at the 2014 Olympics and two medals (silver and bronze) at the 2012 Olympics. She wants to return with at least one medal from next year’s competition.

She started gymnastics when she was 4. In 2002, Ponor was discovered in Constanta by the Romanian national team coaches Octavian Belu and Mariana Bitang. The two asked her to come and train with the national team.
