Romanian Government grants three extra days off for state employees during winter holidays

12 December 2013

State employees in Romania will not work on December 27, 31, and on January 3, 2013. The three extra days off during the Christmas period were granted by Government decision.

Thus, state employees will be free from December 25, until January 5, and return to work on January 6. The three extra days off will be recovered over weekends in January.

By law, all Romanian employees can stay home on December 25, 26, January 1 and 2. If however they choose work during this period, they should receive extra pay.

In the private business sector, some employers choose to grant the whole period off, while others grant extra free days to the employees who still have some days left of their 21 days off a year, by law.
