Romanian Dacia’s sales pass the 500,000 units threshold

19 January 2015

Romanian brand Dacia sold a total 511,000 cars in 2014, up 19% year-on-year, France remaining the main market for the local carmaker, with almost 106,000 units. In Romania, Dacia delivered over 29,000 units, which also represented an advance of 19%.

“2014 will enter in Dacia’s history as we sold over 500,000 units. Dacia thus enters in a very small group of manufacturers that build over 500,000 cars per year,” said Jan Ptacek, Dacia commercial director, cited by local news agency Mediafax. He expects Dacia’s growing trend to also continue this year.

The best sold model was Dacia Sandero, with 169,000 units, out of which 80% were sold in Western Europe. Sandero Stepway represented more than half of total Sandero sales.

Dacia Duster comes second with over 160,000 units sold last year, mostly in France, Romania and Spain. Dacia also sold 100,000 Logan models, most of them in Romania and other Eastern European countries.

France is the main export destination for Dacia, followed by Germany and Spain.

The main production site for Dacia is the Romanian factory in Mioveni, next to Pitesti, which has a maximum capacity of 350,000 cars per year. Some Dacia models are also produced in Renault’s factory in Tangier, in Morocco, as well as in factories in Brazil, Turkey, Russia, Colombia, Iran, India and South Africa.

Dacia is owned by French group Renault.
