17 February 2015

Romanian carmaker Dacia will present an anniversary model at the 2015 International Geneva Motor Show in March.

Dacia’s stand will feature a limited edition car that will mark the 10th anniversary of the Romanian brand’s renaissance, according to an announcement by the French group. Renault hasn’t unveiled any details on the new car.

Last year was the best year in the history of the Romanian brand. Dacia sold a total 511,000 cars in 2014, up 19% year-on-year. France remained the largest market for the local carmaker, with almost 106,000 units. In Romania, Dacia delivered over 29,000 units, which also represented an advance of 19%.

The Romanian brand sold more than 3 million cars worldwide since French group Renault renewed it 10 years ago by launching the first Logan model. Renault officially presented the first Dacia Logan in the Paris International Motor Show, in June 2004, and the model started selling in September 2004. Sandero and Duster have been Dacia's other two big international hits.

The primary production site for Dacia is the Romanian factory in Mioveni, next to Pitesti, which has a maximum capacity of 350,000 cars per year. The plant in Mioveni, which opened in 1966, reached 5 million cars produced in May 2014. Dacia has been part of Renault group since 1999.

Some Dacia models are now also produced in Renault’s factory in Tangier, in Morocco, as well as in plants in Brazil, Turkey, Russia, Colombia, Iran, India and South Africa.
