Romanian Central Bank: Over 730,000 Romanians had overdue debts of EUR 2.3 bln in May 2013

The number of Romanians with debts more than 30 days overdue to financial institutions and non-bank financial institutions went up 2.7 percent in May this year, to 735,500, according to the country’s Central Bank (BNR).  The total value of the debts went up to some EUR 2.35 billion.

The total number of overdue debts was around one million at the end of May, 2013 - a month-on-month increase of 3 percent.

The non-performing loans ratio reached 20.1 percent in May this year, up 0.7 percentage points compared to the previous month, according to BNR. The level of non-performing loans stood at 19.4 percent in April this year and 16.7 percent in May last year.
