The Romanian Central Bank (BNR) has announced the introduction of a collectable silver coins in celebration of ten years of the euro. With a face value of RON 10, the large ( 37 mm diameter ) silver coins will be available from January 30. Each of the 500 coins minted will come with a certificate of authenticity bearing the signatures of the Governor and the Head Cashier of the BNR and cost RON 365 - more than 36 times the value as legal tender.

Romanian landmarks overlaid by an outline map of the country will be pictured on one side of the coin, while on the reverse side a montage of images that the BNR describes as representing the euro's “importance to the business community, households, trade, research and industry.” The 500 silver coins will be put into circulation via branches of the BNR in Bucharest, Cluj, Iaşi and Timişoara.
