Romanian-born violinist who lives in Germany wins Enescu Competition award at home

19 September 2014

Romanian-born violinist Stefan Tarara, 28, won the violin section of the George Enescu International Competition, on Thursday, September 18. In the final he played the Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto.

French Fedor Roudine came second in the competition and third place was awarded to South Korean Wonhee Bae.

For young Stefan Tarara, who now lives in Germany, this prize is a chance to become an internationally known artist. Stefan Tarara will have his own concert at the Ravello Festival in Italy next year.

Tarara holds a master degree from the Music University in Zurich. He is assistant to Professor Zakhar Bron, in Interlaken, Switzerland, and concertmaster for the Mannheim Philharmonic Orchestra. He plays a violin created by Nicolo Gagliano, which he obtained through Germany’s Musikleben German.

Some important names of today’s classical music stage, such as Radu Lupu, Alexandru Tomescu and Elisabeth Leonskaja also made their international debuts as winners of the Enescu Competition.

The final of the violin competition was broadcasted live on a screen placed in front of Romanian Athenaeum and on TVR 2 and TVR HD TV stations, but also online, on the official website of the competition.

The cello final of the Enescu Competition is scheduled for Monday, September 21, and the piano final is on Saturday, September 27.
