Romania's Senate votes for banning firewood exports
Romania’s Senate adopted yesterday a bill that bans firewood exports for three years.
The law project provides that Romania should no longer export firewood with a diameter of up to 20 centimeters and a length of up to 4 meters. However, it also needs to be approved by the Chamber of Deputies.
The draft bill was promoted by a group of liberal MPs but the Senate’s economic and environment committees issued negative reports on it. However, the social democratic senators voted the bill arguing that Romania faces a firewood crisis this year.
The country may have problems in covering the necessary wood for the 3.6 million households that use this type of fuel for heating, according to social democratic MP Serban Nicolae, reports local Agerpres. He added that any shortcomings in this law draft would be corrected by the Chamber of Deputies.
