Romania, second-to-last in EU for individual consumption

Romania ranked second-to-last in the EU for individual consumption and GDP per capita in 2014, after Bulgaria. The highest values were recorded in Luxembourg, according to EU’s statistical office Eurostat.

In Romania, the individual consumption was 45% below the EU average, in 2014, whereas the GDP per capita was 46% below the EU level.

The indicator was expressed in purchasing power standards (PPS), an artificial currency that eliminates price differences between countries.

The individual consumption in the EU varied between 49% and 140% of the European average.
