Romania, second in EU for energy inefficiency

15 June 2015

Romania ranks second in Europe, after Bulgaria, for energy inefficiency, said Iulian Iancu, chairman of the Committee for Industry and Services within the Chamber of Deputies.

Energy consumption in agriculture and services increased, and both fields have highest potential for increasing efficiency, Iancu added, cited by local Agerpres.

Romania should start upgrading government buildings, hospitals and schools, to increase energy efficiency. The energy costs are a huge burden for hospitals, as these represent between 55%-75% of their total costs.

Romania needs to complete the energy efficiency plan, meaning that it has to find financing sources for projects in this field, Iancu concluded.
