Romania's retail trade turnover goes up 10.1% in July
Romania’s retail trade turnover, one of the main indicators of domestic consumption, went up by 10.1% in July compared to the same month of 2016.
In seasonally adjusted terms, the increase was 8.2%.
Non-food sales were the main driver for the retail sales, with a 13.8% year-on-year increase in July (13.4% in seasonally adjusted terms). Fuel sales also went up by 9.7% (9.6% in seasonally adjusted terms) while food sales grew by 6.1% (4.7% in seasonally adjusted terms).
The retail trade turnover also went up over the previous month, by 7.2% in gross terms and 1.2% in seasonally adjusted terms. In the first seven months of this year, the retail sales increased by 8.1% compared to the same period of 2016 on higher non-food and fuel sales.
The domestic consumption has been one of the main drivers of the record economic growth registered in the first half of this year.
