Romania ranks eighth in the EU on agricultural output in 2014

Romania’s total agricultural output had a value of EUR 15.48 million in 2014, which places it eighth in the European Union, according to recent data from Eurostat.

France ranks first with EUR 70.58 million, followed by Germany – EUR 51 million, Italy – EUR 48.3 million, Spain – EUR 41.1 million, UK – EUR 30.57 million, the Netherlands – EUR 26.7 million and Poland – EUR 22.5 million.

Bulgaria, Hungary and the Czech Republic came after Romania in the ranking, with EUR 3.8 million, EUR 7.5 million and EUR 4.7 million respectively.

Romania’s agriculture productivity is low however, considering the country’s large area of agricultural land – 13.3 million hectares, according to 2013 Eurostat data, cited by local Hotnews.ro.

Romania thus had an average output of EUR 1,160 per hectare, lower compared to Poland – EUR 1,560 per hectare, Hungary – EUR 1,660 and the Czech Republic – EUR 1,380. It was higher however than the Bulgaria’s average of EUR 850.
