Romania’s most popular policeman launches children's book

20 May 2016

After becoming one of Romania’s best-selling authors with his debut book Oncoming Flashes (Flash-uri din sens opus), traffic policeman Marian Godina is now back with a new book, this time for children.

Marian Godina is one of the most popular Romanians, with over 266,000 fans on Facebook.

His new book called On a mission with Marian. I’m no dwarf, I have a big schoolbag! (In misiune cu Marian. Eu nu-s pitic, am ghiozdanul mare!), consists of a series of educational stories for children, illustrated with suggestive and attractive images.

Its main characters are traffic policeman Marian and Luca, a six-year-old boy who is interested in the police officer job. The two become friends, and Marian teaches Luca basic traffic rules and things about the life of a policeman. Together, “the two fulfill a mission in which they find out many things about traffic, books, and friendship,” reads the book’s presentation on Curtea Veche’s website, the publishing house that released Marian Godina’s first book as well.

The book can already be pre-ordered on Curtea Veche’s website, for RON 35 (EUR 7.8), before its official launch on the market (May 25). Marian Gorina will personally sign all the books purchased until May 25.

Marian Godina’s first book turned out to be a huge success: 20,000 copies were sold in the two-week pre-order period. According to Curtea Veche, this figure was “spectacular for the book market in Romania.”

Marian Godina didn’t just become one of the best-selling authors in Romania, but also a symbol of the change movement within Romania’s Police after exposing his superiors’ abusive behavior in a series of Facebook posts. His actions led to the retirement of Ioan Aron, the head of the Brasov County Police Department (IPJ Brasov), where Godina works.
