24 June 2013

The women's epée team brought Romania its third medal at the European Fencing Championship in Zagreb. The team finished the competition in second place, adding a silver medal to the two golds won earlier last week by two individual fencers, Ana Maria Brânză and Tiberiu Dolniceanu.

Brânză was part of the team of four which got the silver medal, together with Simona Pop Deac, Maria Udrea and Amalia Tătăran. Estonia beat Romania 27-20 in the final to take the team gold.

The saber team however lost the bronze medal match and ranked fourth, but Romania still returns with a medal for the sabre competition, Tiberiu Dolniceanu's individual gold.

Earlier this year, Ana Maria Branza has won the Saint Maur World Cup fencing event in Paris, France. In the team event of the women's epée competition, held in the Saint Maur des Fosse municipality, south east of Paris, Romania came third.

The European Fencing Championships ended on June 21 in Zagreb.
