Romania exported some 5.06 million tonnes of wheat in the 2013-2014 agricultural year, 81% more than in the previous year (2012-2013), according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).

The country’s wheat exports reached a five-year high, reports local Agerpres.

Romania’s total wheat resources in the 2013-2014 agricultural year were close to 8.2 million tonnes, almost 90% of which came from the internal production.

Romania also imported some 900,000 tonnes of wheat. The domestic consumption totaled 4.59 million tons.
