Romania’s trade with North Korea amounted to EUR 90 million last year. Most of the exports were cigarettes - worth EUR 83 million and plastic packaging of EUR 2 million.

The country imported products of EUR 5 million from North Korea. These include car parts, vulcanized rubber and safety glass, reports local Economica.net.

In 2011, Romania imported from North Korea candles worth EUR 350 million.

Local cigarette producers such as BAT, Philip Morris and JTI didn’t sell to North Korea. However, the Chinese-owned cigarette factory in Buzau, which produces cigarettes under the brands Golden Monkey and Dubliss, could be responsible with the exports to North Korea.

Another scenario is also possible, namely that cigarettes only transit Romania on their way to North Korea.
