Romania to sign deal on regional gas network interconnection

25 May 2015

Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and Slovakia will sign an agreement to interconnect their natural gas networks, said Peter Szijjarto, Hungarian Foreign Affairs Minister. The agreement will increase the energy supply security for the four countries.

Partners can access European funds and money from the national budgets to finance the necessary investments, Szijjarto added, cited by local Mediafax.

States in the region need to search for new solutions on natural gas supply, after the Nabucco and South Stream projects were abandoned, said Szijjarto. As long as the natural gas networks in the regions are not connected, Central Europe lacks energy security.
