05 August 2013

Romania’s retail turnover, except trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles, went down 4.2 percent in June this year compared to the same month in 2012, according to the latest data provided by the National Statistics Institute INS.

The decrease was mainly caused by car fuel trade in specialized stores, which went down 9.7 percent, but also by the sales of food, beverages and tobacco - down 3.8 percent and by the lower sales of non-food products.

The retail trade turnover, adjusted series by working days and seasonality, also recorded a year-on-year decrease of 2.3 percent in June 2013.

Compared to the previous month, Romania’s retail turnover decreased by 0.9 percent in June, in gross numbers, mainly due to lower sales of food, beverages and tobacco - down 3.2 percent and sales of non-food products - down 1.7 percent.

In the first half of 2013, the turnover of retail trade, adjusted series based on the number of working days and seasonality, recorded a year-on-year decrease of 0.4 percent, due to lower sales of car fuel in specialized stores. In gross numbers, the decrease was 1.1 percent, according to INS.
