Record car registrations in Romania, in January

14 February 2019

New passenger car registrations increased by 19% in January 2019 compared to the same month last year, to nearly 14,000 units, according to the public vehicle registration service DRPCIV.

The market has maintained the fast growth pace from last year, despite signs of uncertainty for the business environment.

For the first time in the past 11 years, new car registrations in January exceeded the volume of January 2009, the first year after the sales plunged in the autumn of 2008, amid the global credit crunch, local Ziarul Financiar reported. Romanian brand Dacia's sales increased by 45%, while Renault grew by 70% and Ford improved its sales by 19%.

The three brands were the best sold in January. Dacia remained the top-selling brand with a record market share of 38% (nearly 5,300 units) in January.
