Photo of Romanian elders, awarded in National Geographic Photography Contest
A photograph showing a couple of Romanian elders from the village of Sarbi, in the Maramures region, was awarded an honourable mention in this year’s National Geographic Photography Contest. The photo was taken by Roberto Fiore and was submitted in the “People” section of the competition.
Professional and amateur photographers from over 150 countries submitted more than 9,200 photos in this competition, of which less than 20 were awarded. Photographs were submitted in three categories: people, places and nature, and were judged on creativity and photographic quality by a panel of experts including National Geographic photographers.
The grand prize was awarded for a photo showing people in a crowded train in Hong Kong. A young woman checking her smartphone stands out in the crowd. The photo was made by Brian Yen.
