Over 800,000 telephone numbers have been carried to new networks since 2008, when the service became available to Romanian customers, according to Romania’s communications authority ANCOM.

Most of the numbers, some 70 percent, were mobile telephony numbers.

The biggest volume of ported numbers a month was achieved in December 2011 – over 34,000. In 2011, over 260,000 users chose to keep their number but revert to other operators, while since the beginning of 2012, over 136,000 have done the same.

Vodafone received the biggest number of clients coming from another network who wanted to keep their mobile telephone numbers: over 186,000, followed by Cosmote – 184,000, Orange – with 175,000. Only 179 numbers reverted to Telemobil – Zapp, Romanian RDS welcomed 5,225 ported numbers.

From September this year, porting a number from one network to another should last only one day, and the administrative procedures, not more than three days, down from 10 days.
