Opposition union in Romania says tourism will be 10% of country's GDP in 2025

29 August 2011

The alliance of opposition parties in Romania, the Social Liberal Union (USL) has recently said that in 2025, Romania’s tourism will reach a level of 10 percent of the GDP, and will represent an income source for 18 percent of the country's population, according to a project submitted by Alexandru Baisanu, Chairman of the National Liberal Party's tourism commission.

USL has proposed the implementation of the "Ecotourism" strategy for protected areas, which includes the establishment of the National Parks Agency, preparation and implementation of management projects for the National Parks, especially to promote Romania as main ecotourism destination in Europe. The opposition union also takes into account the development of a human resources policy in tourism, which involves the establishment of the "Romanian School of Tourism”.

In order to attract capital investment in tourism, USL wants an open and transparent policy on concessions for integrated projects.
